The Baboons continued their unbeaten run with a gritty performance to beat University of Taipei 30-10 at Bailing Rugby Fields yesterday.
The Baboons recovered from 2 tries and a man down to finish the first half strongly with tries from “sniper man” Spencer Jemelka and Jan-Ras Van Der Linde.
The Baboons carried the momentum into the 2H and gained the upper hand with 3 tries in fairly quick succession, the first from the “Ginger Ninja All Star” Paul Rose (his first ever touch as a Baboon) after a superb 40m run and a perfectly executed offload by the Tuvaluan flyer Paulo Kalamelu in true island style. Duncan Sherman, another debutant, and Ike Ojielo added to the tally, by which time the Baboons were in full control of the match, led by a rampant forward pack.
Spencer Jemelka finished the match off with a great individual try which with all his other sniper activity and solid defensive work should make him the best candidate for man of the match. After deliberating in Spencer’s house, drinking Spencer’s beer, however, it was decided (by the committee) that he should share his award with the whole forward pack who were magnificent and provided him with the best ball throughout the match.
Next match of the tour is on November 22 vs Taoyuen County/ Ronin, also at Bailing fields.
Many thanks to our supporters for making it out again yesterday and we hope you can join us for the forthcoming matches. Also thanks to Sheng Kai Huang and Vito Kuo for the match photos.
